We had such a blast at the Spark Design Series last month! There was so much magic from traveling through Main Street USA to the African Savannah. Here is an inside look at our experience at the Spark Design Series!
There is always preliminary work to be done before each event. Our weekly Zoom Meetings in the weeks leading up to our workshop were quite beneficial in planning out our itinerary. We went about how to build an event on Details, sketch your design concepts, lighting, rigging, and how to sell your designs to a client.
Day 1, March 14
Once we had all of our prep work completed, it was time to explore the Walt Disney World Orlando parks! We started our day off at Animal Kingdom, where we explored Africa, Asia, and the World of Pandora. Riding the Na'vi River Journey, we were able to experience the technical lighting needed to achieve the out-of-this-world effects. If you have not had a chance to experience Pandora, we highly recommend you check it out!
Next on our list was Hollywood Studios, where we stepped right into Batuu, the land of Star Wars. Every little detail is accounted for to immerse yourself into the land fully--even the soda bottles are customized to fit the land's theming! When you need to go the additional mile for a client, this is a component to pay close attention to.
For us at least, the main attraction was visiting The Flower and Garden Festival at Epcot! We had the opportunity firsthand to examine the extraordinary lifesize topiaries created by Disney's floral and garden department. Each topiary is uniquely crafted with mechanics easily achieved by all of us florists! Jennifer Reed knows firsthand how to create a stunning piece if you are looking for a guru in all things mechanics for these topiaries. Just look at the Kangaroo she designed for the Philadelphia Flower Show!
The last stop on our park tour was Magic Kingdom, where we looked at all of the lighting and immersive aspects to make an event truly Magical.
Day 2, March 15
Once we had all of our inspiration from our park travels, it was time to get to work! Our theme was Under The Sea. DV Flora and BBJ Linen provided all of our floral and rental needs. We had a hands-on class with Chauvet Lighting to achieve the perfect mood lighting. To take our mock event to the next level, we learned about scent-scaping with Scentex™️.
We collaborated to create the perfect Disney-inspired event with all of our new knowledge. How fantastic was it to be able to design an octopus as the focal point of our design? We had the opportunity to sit and enjoy our finished event with all of the elements included to make it extra special at the end of our long day's work.
A special thank you to all of the creative guides for your expertise and guidance throughout this experience.
We also want to thank all of the event sponsors!
