During Green Career Week, we engaged in several exciting ways. We featured a social media spotlight with our Stetson University interns, Olivia and Chase, sharing their experiences as interns brand new to the industry. We used #GreenCareerWeek so that other students could see the impact. Olivia Vardy, now a full-time team member, was also interviewed by the
Society of American Florists about her journey as an intern. She discovered Details at the Stetson University Career Fair, highlighting the impact our industry can have on students just by attending school events and sharing our experiences. Engaging with students in these settings opens the door for future talent to learn about and get excited about careers in floristry.
"I feel beyond lucky to have stumbled upon Details Flowers Software at the Stetson University Career Expo in 2022. However, many students don't necessarily have access to these career shows and have little to no knowledge of the many amazing opportunities and promising careers in the art, science, technology, and business of horticulture. This is why I felt so excited to be working with Seed Your Future during my first few weeks of interning here at the office. We planned an entire social media takeover, including office tours, intern interviews, and other spotlights, focusing on our first few months of involvement in the floral industry. Our goal was to reach our high school and university peers to bring awareness to this industry that we had so quickly become passionate about. I feel grateful to be a part of a team that has joined the movement to promote and expand the knowledge of horticulture to the younger generations, and I look forward to working alongside the passions of Seed Your Future for years to come!!"
We also hosted lunch-and-learn sessions at our Details headquarters, where students were given a behind-the-scenes look at the floral industry through office tours and insightful presentations. Each department, from Sales and Marketing to Customer Support and Administration, shared how their unique roles contribute to the success of our business. Staff members explained how their specific skills—whether in creative writing, problem-solving, graphic design, or client relations—play a crucial part in shaping the floral industry. Students gained valuable insights into how their talents can be channeled into meaningful and diverse career opportunities within this field, opening their eyes to the many paths available beyond traditional floristry.
Jet Fresh Flowers actively inspired the next generation by visiting Coral Springs High School last April with team members Fernando Ortega and Mimi Pacheco. Their visit wasn’t just a presentation but an opportunity to open students' eyes to the world of floristry. Mimi reflected on the experience, saying, "It was fascinating to hear so many great questions from the students. Even if the students don’t join our industry, I feel that they have a new respect for the floral industry." This sentiment captures the essence of Green Career Week—educating young minds about the possibilities within the floral industry while creating an appreciation for the creativity, craftsmanship, and passion that goes into the different roles. Through engaging with the students, the Jet Fresh team helped to plant seeds of curiosity and respect that will continue to grow.
Jena Gizerskiy from
Rosaprima had a wonderful experience participating in Green Career Week. "I visited a local high school in April, and we had such a great time! We talked about floriculture and the various job opportunities in the floral industry and even shared some fun flower facts. The students were full of questions, which was fantastic. Each student received five roses—one to keep and four to 'petal forward.' I encouraged them to notice how it made people feel and to count how many smiles they created through this simple act of kindness—that's the essence of flower power. I personally love what Seed Your Future is doing and have been involved with their committee for a few years. I truly believe more companies should get involved. These students are our future, and this is where we need to be!"
Green Career Week will be September 30-October 4th, 2024, and back again the first week of March next year. We encourage all businesses in our industry to contribute. If you are interested in participating, please visit the
